A Runners Guide

At Mercer-Ocean Podiatry, we encourage our patients to take the proper steps to prevent running injuries. Your chances of developing injuries greatly increase when you don’t take the right precautions.

Don’t forget to properly stretch before you run, stretching increases muscle flexibility and the joint range of motion. Your body warms up when you stretch and prepares you for running. It is also important to wear the right running shoes which are built for the impact running has on your body. Wearing shoes that are unfit for physical activity is more likely to cause an injury.

After your run is over, be sure to ice your feet and get the right amount of rest. Your body needs time to recover after the strain of running.

While it may seem like you can just roll out of bed and start running, it is extremely important that you prepare your body to prevent injuries and run at the highest level possible.
